Xpand 3D System is an active polarizaring viewing system for 3d works, good with any Digital cinema, with infra-red emitter installation in less than 15 minutes.
Popular in Hong Kong, with Golden Harvest and UA cinema applying this to their cinema chain.
The active glass is separated into the left-eye and right-eye views, with 24 frames per second images switching back and forth 144 times per second. Hence produce a smooth image with less dizzy effect. It is also the brightest, with the highest light efficiency, less power and larger screen is made possible.
Transition between 3D Stereo and 2D regular screening is just a second switching.
　

Dolby 3D system uses a color-filtering technology licensed from Infinitec. The light is separated into the left-eye and right-eye views at the projector, switching back and forth 144 times per second.
　

The Dolby 3D system uses a wheel that spins at 4,800rpm--fast enough to switch between left-eye and right-eye views six times for each frame of the movie. It's divided into two halves, each with a filter coating that lets through only particular frequencies of light, one set for the left-eye view and one for the right-eye view.

Both Xpand and Dolby could project with regular screen solution, no Silver screen or change of screen are required. Both could manage sensation/rotation of glasses, applicable to motion platform, which is not possible with linear polarize system.
